WHO NEEDS EMPLOYERS LIABILITY?
It is a legal requirement to have an Employers Liability policy in place, with a minimum of £5,000,000 cover, for companies, individuals or any business who employ any other person.
The legal requirement for employers to purchase Employers Liability insurance was introduced under
The Employers’ Liability (Compulsory Insurance) Act 1969.
The Act requires virtually all employers to have a minimum level of insurance to cover any claims for compensation from employees.
WHO DOESN’T REQUIRE EMPLOYERS LIABILITY COVER?
- Small family run businesses where all employees have close family links with the principal of the business e.g. a son/ daughter, father/mother and siblings. This exclusion does not apply if the business is a limited company.
- Limited companies where the only employee holds at least 51% of the shares in the company
- Certain government departments and agencies
